On April 12, 1989, Russell Henley was born in Macon, Georgia. The Henleys, Chapin and Sally, were his parents. The golfer received invitations to the PGA Championship and the Masters after his victory.

In March 2014, Henley triumphed on the PGA Tour for the second time at the Honda Classic. He shot two over par in the round of 72 to qualify for the four-man playoff. He was one of the four players that completed the first playoff hole in two strokes. Russell Henley entered the top 50 in the world after claiming the victory. He also prepared a spot for the upcoming Master.

In April 2017, Russell won his third PGA Tour trophy at the Shell Houston Open. In spite of his early difficulties, he managed to shoot a double-bogey and ten birdies in the final round. He defeated runner Kang thanks to a strong showing in the decisive round. Henley competed in the 2021 U. S. Open and made it to the final round. He was tied for the lead in the first, second, and third rounds but was unable to advance to the final. After shooting 76, a 5-over par, he tied for 13th place.
